Product Life Expectancies

(Foto grabbed from Neways Cosmetics)

Did you know that cosmetics have a shelf life?
Are you trying to use the last little bit of your lipgloss, lipsticks, eyeshadows you bought many years ago?
Our cosmetics were not meant to last forever. Most of our cosmetic are not designed to last more than three years and not all companies are required to put the shelf life of their products on the label.  Here are some safeguards to follow when using cosmetics.

CHUCK or KEEP GUIDE

Water-based Foundations and Concealers
Life expectancy: 12 months
Oil-based Foundations
Life expectancy: 18 months
Discard when it becomes cakey or patchy.

Lipsticks and Lipglosses
Life expectancy: 18 months
If the odor is different to the normal smell it's time to replace a new one.
Chuck it out when your lipcolor looks sweaty.

Mascaras
Life expectancy: 2 to 3 months
Dispose when it leaves a clumpy lashes.

Eyepencils
Life expectancy: 18 months
When your liners become dry they are out of the date. Chuck it out.

Powder Blush and Eyeshadows
Life expectancy: 3 years
When the color is fading and the shimmer no longer shimmers get rid of them.

Cream Colors
Life expectancy: 12 to 18 months
When it looks greasy it needs to be thrown away.

Brushes
Life Expectancy: Indefinite
If your brushes look shabby it's time to buy a new set.

Nail Colors
Life Expectancy: One Year
Dispose when the color separates.

A few other suggestions:
This is for hygienic purpose only.

  • Look  for a squeezy tube when you buy cream colors. Tube helps keep the bacteria away.
  • If you have a cold sore atleast wipe the lipstick with a clean tissue after using it.
  • Use a lipbrush if you are using a pot to avoid contamination.
  • Always sharpen your pencil before every use.

Thanks for this, sis. Very helpful especially for those who love to hoard cosmetics.

It's a good thing I don't hoard cosmetics so I get to use up products before the expiration date. :-)

Great post!

Boots No7 has cream shadows in tube form and I really like it. Most of cream shadows are in jar form. It's pretty, but of course, not too hygienic and have higher risk of contamination.
